Blessed to Be a Blessing

Monday Morning Reflection Though the sermon was titled What Do I Treasure?, my mind went to the question Why Am I Blessed? Though God is extravagant, and he does reward us, I see my blessings in this life as tools. Tools that I can use to do the good works God has planned for me. Good works that glorify God.

“Heavenly Father, thank you for your many blessings great and small. I thank you that you give good gifts to your children because you are good. Let me not be a storehouse, but rather let your blessings flow through me like a life-giving river. I pray that I will not ask what I did or can do to receive your blessings, but rather ask what you want me to do with the blessings I receive. Thank you, Lord, for your great, great love and for my greatest treasure – my relationship with your son, Jesus Christ.”

Getting to Know You

Monday Morning Reflection How can we know God as our comforter until we walk through sorrow and loneliness? How can we know Him as our healer unless we first experience brokenness and disease? In worship we sang, “Oh, I want to know you, deeper than before. Oh, I want to know you more and more. More and more.”

“Help us, Lord, to want to know you more. Help us break free of the fear that drives us to complacency. Great is your faithfulness, God. Help us to know without a doubt that your love never fails and that your promises are true even when we cannot see or understand. Help us to trust that you are working something greater in our lives and through us in this world; something that transcends what we ask of you in the moment. Great is your faithfulness. You come through for us, and with you we will come through.”

Give Me Your Eyes

I just read my daughter's blog about the Brandon Heath song, "Give Me Your Eyes." I know this song very well. When I heard it it became the cry of my heart. "Lord, let me see people through your eyes. Help me to be aware of what is right in front of me that I may serve you in the moment never letting an opportunity pass me by." I have lived most of my life through a lens of introspection making myself selfish and useless without knowing it. That is no longer the case. For this I thank my God and my savior, Jesus Christ.

Off to a Slow Start

I am looking at the date I created this blog....October 2008 and now it is halfway through February 2009. Yikes. I don't seem to have anything to say. This is not surprising. The same thoughts keep tumbling around my mind. And they tumble and tumble and never really go anywhere. And those thoughts are private, and I don't really talk about them with anyone. And if I do, I usually regret it. My life is full of stuff to do and connections to make, but the busyness merely shuts out for brief moments of time the sound of my thoughts tumbling.....tumbling.

In all things and above all things is God. My rock. My salvation. And I strive to hear his still, quiet voice above the sound of my own thoughts.

blogging...who me?

It must be the influence of my daughter that I would even consider blogging. That combined with the fact that I am supposed to be some kind of"'techie" person in my professional life. The reality is that I rarely journal. Still I think I am going to give this a try and see how it goes.
